Giants-Chiefs: game preview and betting odds

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to host the New York Giants on Monday night in what will be the final contest of week eight. Kickoff for the interconference matchup is set for 8:15 pm ET.

Chiefs look for first home win since week one

Kansas City has not had the start to the year that they hoped for, nor one that anybody expected. The reigning AFC champions have started the 2021 season at 3-4 and while their tough schedule was a valid excuse early on, it becomes more evident each week that this squad has some real issues to work through.

The Chiefs are coming off of a 27-3 blow out loss to the Tennessee Titans last week in a game that was all but decided by halftime. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes took a knee to the head during the game and was slow to get up following the play. He did not return to the field for the remainder of the contest but cleared concussion protocols and will play on Monday night.

“You get hit pretty hard, sometimes you just want to lay there,” Mahomes said. “Plus it was fourth down. … It was a disappointing day and disappointing way it ended.”

The Chiefs sit last in the AFC West as things currently stand, despite being just two games back of first. They will need to find a way to pick up some wins if they want any chance of getting into the playoffs, and they will have no excuses this week against a team like the Giants.

Giants look to build off big win last week

New York is having an uninspiring year, sitting at 2-5 and third in the NFC East through seven games. However they did put together an impressive performance last week when they stunned the Carolina Panthers, 25-3 at home. The contest was their best defensive performance of the season, giving up merely a single field goal and putting a ton of pressure on the Panthers’ quarterbacks for six sacks. Safety Logan Ryan understands that they will need a similar effort out of their defense to give themselves a chance to win this game, against a quarterback like Mahomes.

“It came together for us defensively, it came together for us as a team,” Ryan said after last week’s win. “We found a way to win, and that was the biggest thing. Now we have our way, and we just have to try and replicate that.”

Betting odds

The home Chiefs are favored by 10.5 points in this one. A Giants upset could return you 5.25x your wager while Kansas City’s money line sits at 1.19.

Mahomes will go toe-to-toe with Giant’s quarterback Daniel Jones who threw for 203 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions in last week’s win.

Mahomes has passed for 2093 yards, 18 touchdowns and 9 interceptions while completing 67.5% of his passes this season.
