The Memphis Grizzlies will host the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night from FedExForum.
The game will mark the third of four meetings between the Grizzlies and Warriors this season. The season-series is currently tied at one game apiece, and the two clubs will meet again in late March.
The Grizzlies will be tipping off a four-game homestand with the game while the Warriors begin a four-game road trip.
Grizzlies look for tenth-straight win
The Grizzlies are the hottest team in basketball right now. They have won nine-straight games, and 19 of their last 23. They have climbed all the way up to fourth in the West and sit a mere half-game back of the Utah Jazz for third. At 28-14, the Grizzlies have a comfortable five-game cushion on the Dallas Mavericks who sit at fifth.
Over the course of their winning streak, the Grizzlies have outscored their opponents by an average of 12.8 points per game. They sit in the top six in both offensive and defensive rating over that span.
The Grizzlies are fresh off a big win over the LA Lakers. Lakers head coach Frank Vogel gave full credit to the Grizzlies who had built a lead as large as 29 points at one point during the game.
“Memphis played great. They’re one of the hottest teams in the league,” he said.
Thompson to play in second game since returning from injury
The Warriors come off a 96-82 home victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday. The game marked Klay Thompson’s first game in 941 days after he tore his ACL in game six of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. The 31-year-old guard dropped 17 points in just 20 minutes of action, converting on 3 triples throughout the game.
Thompson wasted all but 40 seconds before scoring his first NBA basket in nearly three years. Head coach Steve Kerr mentioned after the game that the play was not designed for Thompson to score.
“He wasn’t shy, was he?” Kerr said. “Not that we would ever expect Klay to be shy. I drew up the first play not for him but for him to catch it and move it on. I should have known better.”
Thompson is expected to remain on a minutes restriction against the Grizzlies, according to Kerr. Expect him to play around 20 minutes once again.
The Warriors have cooled off a bit after a flaming hot start to the season. They are a modest 3-3 over their last six but remain tied with the Phoenix Suns at 30-9 for the best record in the NBA.
