Mavericks search for fifth-straight win against Suns

The Dallas Mavericks will host the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night from American Airlines Center. The Western Conference matchup will feature two of hottest clubs in basketball right now.

The Mavericks and Suns will meet for the third and final time this season. The two teams met for a two-game mini series in mid-November that resulted in consecutive Suns home wins.

The Mavericks will host their fourth game of a five-game homestand while the Suns wrap up their five-game road trip in which they are yet to lose so far.

Mavericks have won ten of 11

The Mavericks might just be the hottest team in basketball. They have won ten of their last 11 games, four in a row and have held opponents to less than 50% shooting in an incredible 21-consecutive games. They now sit at 26-19 on the year and fifth in the West.

They held off the Toronto Raptors at home on Wednesday night, 102-98. Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic poured in a season-high 41 points to go with 14 rebounds and 7 assists.

“We’re playing team defense; that’s where we’re winning,” Doncic said after the game, crediting his teammates for the Mavericks’ recent onslaught of wins.

The Mavericks have the 21st-ranked offense, 4th-ranked defense and eighth-best net rating in the NBA this season..

Suns have won seven of eight

The Mavericks may be playing the best brand of basketball in the NBA right now but the Suns are not far behind. They have been winning games at an incredible rate all season, and right now is no different. They have won seven of their last eight games and, like the Mavericks, are also riding a four-game win streak. Something has got to give tonight.

The Suns have the best record in not only the West, but the entire NBA at 34-9. They have the sixth-ranked offense, second-ranked defense and second-best net rating in the NBA this season.

Led by Devin Booker’s 48-point explosion, the Suns took down the Spurs on Monday night, 121-107.

“When we he gets it going like that, we try to feed him and then we still make the right play. For us, it’s all about ultimately winning the game,” Chris Paul said of Booker after the game.

Players to watch
