Hey team, Natasha here. I hope you all had a great weekend. It’s funny, I was following along this past week in the CanPL to see four draws in a row – pretty rare in this league.
In fact, two of my three picks came in last week which was pleasing to see. Here’s what I’m fancying in the upcoming weekend…
ComeOn! Game of the Week:
Saturday: HFX Wanderers vs. Edmonton
Natasha’s prediction: Edmonton Win
My home team, Edmonton!! So their home form hasn’t been great of late but my heart says they can take something from this game. And by something, I’m thinking all three points.
Their recent away form has been slightly better than their home form, and the 3-0 win away to Valour last time out will fill them with confidence that they can go to the Wanderers and walk away with the win.
Despite winning just one of their last five away games, Edmonton have scored eight goals. They were also victim to a last minute equaliser at home to Pacific. Performances are definitely going in the right direction. Meanwhile, HFX have won three of their last five at home, and although their run of form at home has been strong, in that time they’ve conceded seven goals.
A win would see Edmonton move within a point of HFX Wanderers. Let’s go, Eddies!
Saturday: Atletico Ottawa vs. Cavalry
Natasha’s prediction: Cavalry win
Next up on Saturday, Cavalry visit Atletico Ottawa who go into the game off the back of an impressive 1-1 draw away to Pacific. Ottleti defended astutely throughout but to concede an 86th minute equaliser.
It’s been nine games without a win for Saturday’s hosts and I can only see this going one way. Cavalry have a game in hand on Pacific at the top of the CanPL, and after their defeat to the league leaders a couple of weeks ago, this is the perfect opportunity to close the gap once more.
In fact, Atletico have won just three games this season… one away to Cavalry but I can’t see history repeating itself here.
Cavalry’s away form has been strong in recent weeks, losing just two of their last 10. Both defeats came to top of the league Pacific. In those last 10, Cavalry have netted 14 times which is some going and I’m thinking a 3-1 win to the Cavs.
Sunday: Forge vs. Pacific
Natasha’s prediction: Forge win
Sunday’s early kick-off sees Pacific travel to Forge as they hope to stretch their lead at the top of the CanPL.
Pacific go into the game off the back of just one defeat in 12. Back-to-back 1-1 draws have allowed Cavalry to close the gap at the top, but with Forge having two games in hand, this is a game the visitors will want to win convincingly.
Astonishingly, Forge have won their last five home CanPL games against Pacific, and I’m going to go for that run to continue this weekend. I have a hunch that their terrific record against the league leaders will stretch to six in a row. Forge have outscored Pacific 13-1 in their last five encounters at Tim Hortons Field.
Forge will be on a high following their quarter-final Canadian Championship win and will hope the momentum will continue into the weekend.
I’m going for a 2-1 win to Forge.
