Hey all. Natasha here, back with another set of CanPL picks.
Last week I went 1-2, but I did get an exact score with Forge’s 2-1 win over Pacific. Here is a look at the week ahead.
Saturday: Valour vs. Edmonton
Natasha’s prediction: Edmonton Win
I know my hometown team FC Edmonton has picked up just one win in their last 11 matches. But who did that win come against? That’s right. Valour FC, in early September.
The two teams will meet on Saturday at 3:00 pm ET.
Coming off of a couple of close, hard-fought battles against the league-leading Pacific FC and HFX Wanderers FC, the boys are due for another victory.
Valour FC, meanwhile, has not won any of their last six matches, including five losses. They have struggled offensively, failing to a record a single multi-goal performance in the month of September.
I’m predicting another wire-to-wire, low scoring, tight match between these two teams. 1-0 FC Edmonton from IG Field in Winnipeg.
Sunday: York United vs. HFX Wanderers
Natasha’s prediction: York United Win
York United and HFX Wanderers will kick off Sunday’s double-header with a 1:00 pm ET matchup from York Lions Stadium.
The two teams are about as evenly-matched as they come. They sit at fourth and fifth in the CanPL standings, separated by just four points. They have an identical goal differential at -1 on the year. They have faced each other four times this season with only one of those matches ending decisively. York United took the first match by a score of 3-2, and the rest have been draws. Finally, they both have identical records of 3-0-3 in their last six games.
This certainly serves as the toughest pick of the week, but I will lean towards the home team and season-series leader.
York United in an exciting, high-scoring affair, 3-2.
ComeOn! Game of the Week:
Sunday: Atletico Ottawa vs. Forge
Natasha’s prediction: Forge Win
Our ComeOn! Match of the Week will feature Atletico Ottawa and Forge FC from TD Place in Ottawa. The game will take place at 3:30 pm ET on Sunday, following the York United-HFX Wanderers match.
It’s hard to bet against a Forge FC team that sits a mere one point back of Cavalry FC for 2nd place in the CanPL, and a a team that has won five of their last seven games.
Head-to-head, it has been all Forge FC this year. The two teams have played three teams and the total score sits at 7-0 at the expense of Atletico Ottawa.
Ottawa has failed to pick up a win in any of their last five matches, and sit at the bottom of the CanPL.
I’m predicting an easy 2-0 win for Forge FC.
