Happy Monday all. Another exciting weekend in the sports world and Canadian Premiere League is in the books. I hope every enjoyed it and here is a look ahead to this upcoming thanksgiving weekend in the CanPL.
Friday: York United vs. Atletico Ottawa
Natasha’s prediction: York United win
York United FC heads into this weekend coming off a 2-2 draw with HFX Wanderers FC. They have not lost in over a month, having gone 3-0-4 over their last seven games.
On the other side, last-place Atletico Ottawa has picked up just one win in their last 12 games with a 1-7-4 record. They are coming off of a 3-0 loss to the third-place Forge FC on Sunday.
The two clubs will meet for the fourth time this season. The first two ended in draws while the most recent meeting ended in a 2-0 York victory on September 14th.
Despite the discrepancy in the standings, York and Ottawa have been a good match for one another this season. But I have to lean towards the team that did not lose for all of September. York United takes it at home by a score of 1-0.
ComeOn! Game of the Week:
Saturday: Cavalry vs. Edmonton
Natasha’s prediction: Cavalry win
I love to rock with my hometown FC Edmonton but it is tough to bet against Cavalry FC in this matchup.
Cavalry sits at 10-5-5 on the season, good for second place in the league, and is fresh off of a 3-2 road win over this same Edmonton team.
Edmonton’s 4-10-7 record situates them at second-last in the CanPL. They have gone 1-7-5 in their last 13 games, struggling to keep the ball out of their own net.
Cavalry has won four of the two teams’ five meetings this season, with the fifth one ending in a draw.
It has been total domination in this head-to-head and with Cavalry back at home, I’m taking them by a score of 2-0.
Monday: HFX Wanderers vs. Pacific
Natasha’s prediction: HFX Wanderers win
I’m sensing an upset here! As you all know, Pacific FC sits at the top of the CanPL standings with an 11-4-6 record. They have lost just one of their last nine and are coming off of an easy 3-1 route of Valour FC.
However, HFX has also played some pretty good soccer as of late, having lost just one of their last 11 games.
The last meeting between these two teams ended in a scoreless draw, but I am taking the home Wanderers in a 3-1 statement victory.
Monday: Valour vs. Forge
Natasha’s prediction: Forge win
Our final match of thanksgiving weekend will feature Valour FC and Forge FC.
Sitting at third in the CanPL standings, Forge sits at second in the league with an impressive +10 goal differential on the season. Just one of their 19 games have ended in a draw; the lowest mark in the CanPL. It has been win or lose with this team, and mostly win.
Valour has been the coldest team in the league over the last month or so, having gone 0-6-2 over their last eight games.
Forge takes it decisively on the road, 2-0 the final.
