Hey all! I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving and enjoyed the weekend’s CanPL action! I’m looking forward to another exciting four-game weekend ahead. Let’s get to those picks!
Saturday: Forge vs. Atletico Ottawa
Natasha’s prediction: Forge win
Coming off a poor effort and 3-1 loss to Valour FC on Monday, Forge FC will look to get back on track when they host Atletico Ottawa this Saturday.
Ottawa is coming off of a 1-1 draw with York United FC, but still remains with just one win in their last 13 games.
Head-to-head, Forge has been dominant in this matchup. Atletico Ottawa has yet to score a single goal during any of the two teams’ matches, as Forge has outscored them by a combined score of 10-0 in four games this season.
I’m expecting Forge to come back strong at home this week against a team that they have already had a lot of success against this season. 2-0 Forge from Tim Horton’s Field.
ComeOn! Game of the Week:
Saturday: Pacific vs. Valour
Natasha’s prediction: Draw
CanPL-leading Pacific FC is set to host Valour FC this coming Saturday.
The standings would tell you that this matchup should heavily favor Pacific FC, especially coming from Starlight Stadium. However they find themselves on a two-game losing streak, while Valour is fresh off of an impressive 3-1 win over Forge and have not lost since September 29th.
Having won all four games against Valour this season, Pacific has clearly proven themselves to be the better team in this matchup. However, I think Valour has other plans this time around. I’m calling a 1-1 draw.
Sunday: York United vs. Edmonton
Natasha’s prediction: York United win
My hometown FC Edmonton squad has picked it up over their last couple of games with no losses over their last three.
However, York United has played a really nice stretch of soccer for an even longer period of time, with no losses over their last eight games. Five of those matches have ended in draws, so it has not been complete domination, but this is a very tough team to pick up three points against.
These teams have met just two other times this season: a York win and a draw. So not a huge sample size to work with, but I am going with a tight York United win, 1-0 at home.
Sunday: Cavalry vs. HFX Wandereres
Natasha’s prediction: Cavalry win
Cavalry FC and HFX Wanderers FC sit at three and four in the CanPL as things currently stand. The Wanderers are slowly gaining ground but Cavalry still holds a five-point lead.
Head-to-head, Cavalry has had the edge, winning one of the two matches while the other ended in a draw.
However, HFX has lost just once in their last 12 games. I think that that trend continues as the Wanderers pick up a 2-1 win to make things even more interesting in the standings.
